The chipped area is prepared with a liquid or gel that roughens it so the bonding material adheres better. Then the bonding material, which is a resin that we can match to the color of the tooth, is applied and shaped like a natural tooth. Once that's done we'll harden it with an ultraviolet light. Even larger chips may be treated with a dental crown. A crown covers the entire visible portion of the tooth to strengthen and protect it.
