At Floor Dental Group in Cupertino CA, our cosmetic dental smile makeover patients believe that life-changing cosmetic dentistry is a beneficial investment. Indeed, for most people, the value of a healthy, attractive smile cannot be measured in dollars. We recognize, however, that cosmetic dentistry is not cheap.

Do you have to spend thousands of dollars to upgrade your smile? Actually, no. Today’s post focuses on the most affordable cosmetic dental procedures.

Dental Bonding
In many cases, dental bonding can be used to repair a tooth that has been chipped.

When we repair a tooth with dental bonding, a pliable resin material is applied to the tooth. We expertly molds the material to create the desired shape. The resin is then hardened using a special light. After hardening, we perform any required trimming and shaping followed by a final polishing.

Dental bonding is usually less costly than porcelain veneers or dental crowns.

Beware of brand-new  practices that advertise very low prices for dental bonding, veneers, or dental implants. The proficiency and artistic ability necessary to attain minuscule tolerances should not be undertaken by a beginner. Thoroughly research any new cosmetic dentist you are considering for any cosmetic dental procedures or complete cosmetic dental smile makeover.

Tooth Whitening
Most  people are aware that there are several different tooth whitening methods. We recommend scheduling a tooth whitening consultation to discuss your options. Even inexpensive OTC tooth bleaching systems can be misused and result in tooth sensitivity, damage to tooth enamel, and uneven coloration.

Regarding the cost of teeth whitening: if you choose an at-home system from a drugstore, you may have to buy several packages to attain even slight whitening. In-office whitening or a take home system from our office may be more economical in the long run.

At Floor Dental Group in Cupertino CA, one of the dental issues we see most often is that of chipped teeth. In most cases treating them is a straightforward procedure. And half the time, they’re a reminder to always wear a mouthguard when playing sports.

It can be frightening to have a piece of a tooth break off. The way it’s treated depends on how severe it is. If it only involves a small piece of enamel then a simple filling is usually enough, and in just one office visit you’re good to go.

For larger chips we’ll probably use a procedure called bonding, especially if it’s a front tooth. In most instances bonding is a fairly simple procedure. The chipped area is prepared with a liquid or gel that roughens it so the bonding material adheres better. Then the bonding material, which is a resin that we can match to the color of the tooth, is applied and shaped like a natural tooth. Once that’s done we’ll harden it with an ultraviolet light.

Even larger chips may be treated with a dental crown. A crown covers the entire visible portion of the tooth to strengthen and protect it.

At Floor Dental Group in Cupertino CA we have treated countless chipped teeth with cosmetic dental bonding. People from Saratoga, Campbell, and Sunnyvale also come to us for complete cosmetic dentistry. Contact us today!

At Floor Dental Group in Cupertino CA, we improve smiles with cosmetic dentistry every day. From the questions that some patients ask, though, it seems there are some myths about what cosmetic dentistry can and cannot do. So we’re using this blog post to clear up a few of them.

Myth #1: Cosmetic Dentistry is Never Necessary for a Healthy Smile

Many “cosmetic” dental procedures are not solely cosmetic. Procedures such as tooth replacement prevent potential issues like tooth movement, bone loss, and difficulty chewing and speaking.

Myth #2: A Dental Bridge is the Only Way to Replace a Missing Tooth

Dental bridges have been used for many years with success. However, dental implants are often a better choice for replacing one or more missing teeth. Dental implants have many advantages. They feel like natural teeth, they are stronger, and they are easier to clean than dental bridges. Implants can also be used to anchor dentures or partial dentures.

Myth #3: At-Home Teeth Whitening is as Effective as Professional Whitening

Commercially purchased whitening systems cannot compare to professional-strength teeth whitening treatments. They may remove surface stains, but do not provide the best results.

Myth #4: Dental Bonding is the Best Way to Fix a Chipped Tooth

Dental bonding can restore the shape of a tooth, but may not be the best long-term solution. If you have a damaged tooth, you may be a good candidate for porcelain veneers.

Myth #5: Braces are the Only Way to Correct Crooked Teeth

Invisalign® clear braces can transform a smile, even in adults. However, if your teeth are only slightly crooked, porcelain veneers can reshape your teeth and help you get a beautiful smile.
